49ers Not Concerned By Nick Bosa's Absence Amid Talks

Jul 31, 2023 3:43 PM

Nick Bosa has not showed up to training camp yet with the San Francisco 49ers.

"I don't like not having one of our best players here," John Lynch said Monday before the 49ers held their first fully padded session of training camp. "We've got a really good track record that I'm proud of as a group of having our players in, but I also understand it. And understand that we're going to have to exhibit some patience and understand that ultimately this thing will work out."

Bosa is entering the fifth and final season of his rookie contract.

Bosa is expected to meet or surpass the $31.67 million.

Aaron Rodgers: Sean Payton's Comments Over Hackett 'Inappropriate'

Jul 30, 2023 2:55 PM

Defending offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers jumped into the Sean Payton controversy Sunday with a scathing rebuke of the Denver Broncos coach.

"It made me feel bad that someone who has accomplished a lot in the league is that insecure that they have to take another man down to set themselves up for some easy fall if it doesn't go well for that team this year," Rodgers told NFL Network in a sit-down interview after practice. "I think it was way out of line, inappropriate, and I think he needs to keep my coaches' names out of his mouth."

Kyler Murray Taking Rehab 'One Day At A Time'

Jul 30, 2023 1:25 AM

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray doesn't have a timetable for his return from an ACL injury he suffered on Dec. 12 but is taking his rehab and approach to making his 2023 debut "one day at a time."

Murray met with the media on Saturday for the first time since Dec. 7, 2022, days before he injured his right knee against the New England Patriots on "Monday Night Football" in Week 14 of last season. He said he's improving daily while also learning a new offense in the classroom and by taking mental reps on the field during training camp, which began earlier this week.

Cowboys' Stance On Zack Martin 'Not About Precedent'

Jul 29, 2023 6:47 PM

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones does not sound as if he is ready to adjust the contract for All-Pro right guard Zack Martin, who has missed the first five days of training camp in a holdout.

Martin's absence so far has cost him $250,000 in fines that cannot be rescinded when he does report.

"It's not about precedent. It's about facts," Jones said.

Jul 28, 2023 8:15 AM

Baker received a raise in the form of $2.4 million in bonuses and incentives this year, including a $300,000 signing bonus, according to a report. He also received a pay raise in 2024.

He requested a trade when a long-term deal didn't happen back in April.

49ers Planned To Call Philip Rivers For Possible Super Bowl LVII Start

Jul 28, 2023 8:10 AM

Kyle Shanahan admitted in an interview with "The TK Show" that the San Francisco 49ers likely would have called Philip Rivers had the team rallied past the Philadelphia Eagles in this past NFC Championship Game.

The Niners were already on their third quarterback -- Brock Purdy -- leading up to the title game.

After seeing Purdy go down with an elbow injury in the first half, a lot of thoughts started running through Shanahan's mind.

"I still thought we were going to win the game," Shanahan said. "Whole thing, I'm just thinking is, 'Man, I hope Brock's not as bad as they're saying and what's going to be our Plan B? Are we going to have to get Philip Rivers, someone like that, for the Super Bowl?' Because that's what I'm thinking."

Tyreek Hill Walks Back Talk About Early Retirement

Jul 28, 2023 8:04 AM

Tyreek Hill raised eyebrows when he said in April that he was for sure going to retire in four years when his current four-year, $120 million deal expires following the 2026 season.

The Miami Dolphins wide receiver will be 32 when his contract expires.

He's already starting to walk back talk of early retirement.

"I can continue to play this game for forever, I feel like," Hill said. "I'm feeling great. Obviously I'm still fast."

He revealed that the inspiration for his early retirement sentiment came following a heart-to-heart with his father about staying healthy long term.

"My dad had a chance to talk with me the past two years," Hill said. "He told me, 'You can make all the money in the world, but what is it for if you're not able to spend it? You don't want to spend your whole life working. You want to be able to enjoy your life.'"

Dak Prescott 'Guarantees' Fewer Interceptions This Season

Jul 28, 2023 8:01 AM

Dak Prescott isn't guaranteeing a Super Bowl victory for the Dallas Cowboys, but the quarterback vows to throw fewer interceptions this season.

"I am going to lessen my interception numbers," Prescott said. "That is a guarantee."

Last year, Prescott tied for the league lead in interceptions with 15, despite missing five games with a broken thumb.

"I'm not going to stop being aggressive," Prescott added.

'Epiphany' Led Saquon Barkley To Agreement With Giants

Jul 27, 2023 4:05 PM

Saquon Barkley said an epiphany led him to end his contract dispute with the New York Giants after seriously considering sitting out part of the season.

Barkley and the Giants signed a one-year, $10.1 million deal with close to an additional $1 million in available incentives. The deal also includes a $2 million up-front signing bonus.

"I can sit here and lie to you and be like, 'I wasn't disappointed,' or 'I wasn't this and that or a third.' That would just be a flat-out lie," Barkley said. "But I am mature enough to understand that it's a business. Understand that deals don't get done every year.

"Specific to my position, we didn't get a deal done. Me and my team felt we were in good faith trying to get a deal done. The Giants felt they were in good faith trying to get a deal done. That's life. Sometimes you don't come to an agreement. I had to come to a decision and, like I said, I had an epiphany. I had a mindset of what I was going to do. I changed my mind."
